In Year 1 of the Iowa Public Health Leadership Academy, a session on Health Equity was presented and many resources were shared. Below are additional resources that have been compiled since that sessions. Many of these resources are toolkits and datasets for the Iowa public health workforce to use in advancing health equity.
- Association of State and Territorial Health Officers (ASTHO): Foundational Practices for Health Equity -designed to build the capacity of public health organizations and their partners to advance health equity and create the conditions for better health across the life span
- CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion: A Practitioner’s Guide for Advancing Health Equity: Community Strategies for Preventing Chronic Disease – provides lessons learned and innovative ideas on how to maximize the effects of policy, systems, and environmental improvement strategies— all with the goal of reducing health disparities and advancing health equity.
- Center on Health Promotion Research for Persons with Disabilities: Community Health Inclusion Index – set of survey tools used to help communities gather information on the extent to which there are health living resources that are inclusive of all members of the community, including persons with disabilities
- Community Toolbox: Enhancing Cultural Competence – toolkit that aids in assessing and enhancing cultural competence in your organization or community effort.
- County Health Rankings & Roadmaps -works to improve health outcomes for all and to close the health disparities between those with the most and least opportunities for good health, includes Iowa specific data
- DeBeaumont: Ensuring Equity in COVID-19 Planning, Response and Recovery Decision Making: An Equity Lens Tool for Health Departments – Big Cities Health Coalition (BCHC) commissioned Human Impact Partners (HIP) to create this Equity Lens Tool for members to use in the context of COVID-related decision making.
- Iowa Department of Public Health – aims to incorporate health equity into all department functions, including surveillance, planning, implementation, and evaluation. IDPH is working to achieve health equity through workforce development, data analysis and use, program activities and outreach and assessment of internal and external policy and procedures.
- Iowa Public Health Tracking Portal – Iowa specific data on several health topics to identify gaps that lead to inequitable health outcomes.
- Resources for Working Toward Health Equity – provides a menu of resources to think about when addressing health equity.
- Midwestern Public Health Training Center: Health Equity – helps to improve public health by strengthening the technical, scientific, managerial, and leadership competencies of the public health workforce. Developed a resource page full of health equity media & resources.
- National Association of County & City Health Officers (NACCHO) – Health Equity and Social Justice Toolkit – A health equity & social justice toolkit for local health departments.
- National Collaborative for Health Equity (CHE) – a national initiative designed to empower leaders and communities to identify and address social, economic, and environmental conditions that shape health and life opportunities.
- National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities – provides a Compendium of Publicly Available Datasets and Other Data-Related Resources.
- PolicyLink: National Equity Atlas – a first-of-its-kind data and policy tool for the community leaders and policymakers who are working to build a new economy that is equitable, resilient, and prosperous.
